Home Alone is a funny family friendly movie is set during the holiday season where the entire family is headed off to a fantastic vacation in Paris. Except chaos begins to unfold when they forget young son Kevin (played by Macauley Culken). Realizing he has been left behind he begins to fend for himself including defending his house against two robbers played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.
A Christmas Story
One Christmas movie that has to be watched year after year during the holiday season is A Christmas Story. Set in the 1940’s, this holiday movie is based on an autobiographical look back on Jean Shepherd’s hilarious memories of childhood.
Told from Ralphie’s point of view, the movie is both a sweet and a funny look at what it was like to be a nine year old during the 1940’s.
The Polar Express
Polar Express is an endearing movie that your entire family will love. The movie is set in the ‘40s and the star of the movie is a little boy who no longer believes in magic.
The movie has a brief start with the boy at home with his parents and sister before a sleek train appears abruptly in front of the little boy’s house. The filmmaker paid close attention to every part of the movie – from the realistic wolves running as the train goes by – to the detail on the ticket. The movie has a sweet ending that will remind adults of what it’s like to have that magic belief in Christmas.
The Santa Clause
The Santa Clause is a funny family film that features Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, a divorced father who gets his son, Charlie, for visitation over Christmas Eve. He learns that his ex-wife and Charlie’s stepfather have told his son there’s no Santa Clause.
When his son comes over, they both think they hear an intruder outside. But Scott startles the intruder who falls off the roof and accidently dies. But the intruder was really Santa. Because of a “Santa clause”, Scott has to take over the job as Santa. Scott starts to gain weight and assume the role of Santa.
This is a fun Christmas movie to watch over the holidays. Kids will love seeing all of the detail that went into creating the North Pole toy workshop.
Elf is a funny holiday film filled with lots of humor for the whole family. Will Ferrell plays Buddy, a 6 ft tall man raised as an elf by Santa Clause (played by Edward Asner). Buddy eventually learns that he’s not a real elf and is determined to find his real dad (played by James Caan). Lots of hilarious moments ensue during Buddy’s quest to find his Dad. A must-see film for the holidays!
Arthur Christmas is an animated movie that gives viewers a look inside Santa’s modern toy workshop. But with all it’s high tech features, it suffers a clich that causes one child not to be on Santa’s list. And Arthur is determined not to let this happen.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Muppet Christmas Carol is based on the classic Charles Dickens’ story, A Christmas Story. The same plot that he wrote is followed in the movie with the exception of the adorable Muppet characters.
But the movie does bring the famous Muppet humor and also adds some cute, modern songs that kids will love. The movie is told through the Muppet Gonzo – and Rizzo the Rat is Gonzo’s narrating sidekick. The two of them have some funny one liners as the story is narrated.
